In the wake of the NSW Government’s announcement last week that the entire state of NSW is now in drought, Canberra’s own Capital Region Farmers Market urges people to support local and regional farmers by shopping and donating at the Farmers Market.
“These farmers and growers really need the support of as many people as possible, and right now one of the main ways you can support them is by continuing to buy what produce they do have available,” said Capital Region Farmers Market and Rotary Deputy Director, Vicki Coleman.
“You can also support these farmers by donating money at the Market to support the drought relief efforts,” Vicki continued.
The Capital Region Farmers Market, managed by the not-for-profit Rotary Club of Hall, has been collecting for drought relief over the past few weeks by way of simple manned donation buckets on site. The Club urges Canberrans and visitors to dig deep for drought relief with more donations being collected this coming weekend at the Market on Saturday 18th August.
“We are thrilled with the level of generosity to date. Over the past two weekends we have received $5350 in voluntary bucket donations from the public at the Market. Money raised will go directly to farming families, particularly from within our Market’s stallholder catchment, in need due to the impact of the current drought.
“In addition, Rotary is also tipping in significant dollars to assist with the relief efforts. Identification of those in need is being handled by the Rural Financial Counselling Service, and all moneys are going directly to those who need it,” Vicki continued.
Donation buckets for drought relief will be onsite at the Market this coming weekend, Saturday 18th August 2018. For more information on the Capital Region Farmers Market and Rotary Club of Hall’s other significant community projects, visit www.capitalregionfarmersmarket.com.au
