The program for the three-day Gungahlin Movie Marathon next month has been released offering a range of cinematic experiences from family films, to classics and recent releases, announced local Gungahlin MLA Meegan Fitzharris today.
“I’m pleased to announced that from 17 – 19 June the Gungahlin community will be able to choose from a range of great films at the region’s first movie marathon. We will have 19 films for people to see with a mix of old and new favourites in a range of genres, including the recently released Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Mad Max: Fury Road, Despicable Me, Dirty Dancing and The Princess Bride,” said Ms Fitzharris.
“Tickets are only $5 per person per movie and go on sale on 1 June. All proceeds will go to local not-for-profit groups working to benefit people who live in Gungahlin.
“There will be just over 4,000 tickets available, and the movie marathon will be held over the weekend of 17, 18 and 19 June at Gungahlin College, which has a great theatre.”
The Land Development Agency is delivering this event on behalf of the ACT Government and is coordinating partnerships and fundraising opportunities with the Gungahlin community.
Ms Fitzharris said with the Gungahlin Cinema yet to be built, people will be thrilled to be able to come along to a movie in the Town Centre.
“Like many people I love going to the movies, so with the completion of the Gungahlin cinema still some time away, I think it’s important to provide other opportunities for entertainment locally,” said Ms Fitzharris.
“The program was formed following a survey in March/April which asked Gungahlin residents what they would like to see. It includes comedy, drama, sci-fi, action, animated, romance, documentary and foreign films.
“Most of the movies will be shown in the main theatre at Gungahlin College which seats 290 people. It has a big screen, the comfortable seats are allocated and some are reserved for wheelchair access. Six films will be shown in a smaller 70-seat lecture theatre.”
