Each year as part of NAIDOC week at the ACT NAIDOC Ball and Awards Night there is an award for the ACT NAIDOC Business of the Year award. This award aims to recognise the range of great Indigenous owned and operated businesses in the ACT.

These awards are open to any business that is at least 50 percent Indigenous owned, is registered and operating as a business in the ACT.

This year the award went to Gungahlin based Dilkara Essence of Australia. Dilkara Essence of Australia’s founder Julie Okely has melded her Aboriginal heritage and her love of hairdressing to create the first range of hair care products utilising Australia’s native bush ingredients.

Julie explained “Ingredients are sourced from local Indigenous communities to assist them to achieve their own business success. We know the integrity and car that has been taken to grow and harvest these native elements.”
