Road users are advised that four lanes will open to traffic on Gundaroo Drive between Nudurr Drive and the Barton Highway this week as work continues on the second stage of the duplication of Gundaroo Drive.
The second stage of the duplication began in mid-2018 and when completed will provide two lanes in both directions between Gungahlin Drive and the Barton Highway. Line marking is currently taking place on the lanes between Nudurr Drive and the Barton Highway and this brings major road duplication works to an end along this section of Gundaroo Drive.
Four lanes will open to traffic from today, Monday 3 June 2019 (weather permitting). There will be off-peak lane closures as the project team finishes up minor works including landscaping. These works are also expected to be completed this month (weather permitting).
The speed limit will remain at 60km/h until minor works are completed and conditions are deemed safe to reinstate the speed limit of 80km/h. Road users are advised to follow the directions of traffic controllers and road signage and take note of reduced speed limits.
Work is also now well underway in the section between Nudurr Drive and Gungahlin Drive. The project team are busy with utility relocations, removal of the redundant gas main and duplication of the two bridges in this section. Work will begin to construct the new lanes in this section in the coming months. The footpaths on the northern side of Gundaroo Drive (Gungahlin Lakes Club side) have been closed to facilitate this work. There are detours in place and pedestrians and cyclists are advised to please take care and follow signage.
