ACT Policing arrested a 24-year-old Franklin man on Tuesday morning, (December 17) for the importation of drugs into Australia, destined for the ACT.
On Wednesday November 27, a package arrived in Sydney that was intercepted by Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, and addressed to a P.O Box in Canberra.
Examination of the package revealed it contained amphetamine. The contents were removed and the package forwarded to its intended address.
The package was collected on December 9 and the recipient captured on Closed Circuit Television.
About 10.30am on Tuesday December 17, Detectives from the Drugs and Organised Crime Team, ACT Criminal Investigations, with the assistance of Homicide Investigation Team, General Duties, Digital Forensic and Crime Scene members executed a search warrant at an address in Franklin.
Criminal Investigations Detective Superintendent Paul Shakeshaft said ACT Policing has zero tolerance for persons importing illicit drugs into the capital.
“This arrest is a positive outcome for ACT Policing and largely due to a close working relationship with our partners at the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and Australia Post,” Detective Superintendent Shakeshaft said.
The man was arrested for the importation of marketable quantity of border controlled drugs and conveyed to the ACT Watch house where he was charged.
He will face court today where bail will be opposed.
