A McGregor man is scheduled to front ACT Magistrates Court today (6 June), accused of driving drunk with a disqualified licence while on bail.
Police said they saw the 44-year-old driving in Nicholls with a deflated rear tyre at about 3:50 am on Tuesday.
It’s alleged that when the vehicle stopped, police saw two passengers sitting inside, one on the other’s lap, neither wearing a seatbelt.
The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which police said returned a positive result for alcohol. Later, breath analysis at Gungahlin Police Station returned a blood alcohol content reading of 0.141 – almost three times the legal limit.
Further police checks revealed the McGregor man was allegedly driving despite having his licence disqualified four times previously. Police also said this was the 11th time he had been detected drink driving and that he was on bail.
He’s been charged with drink driving, disqualified driving, and two counts of having a passenger over 16 not wearing a seatbelt.
In an unrelated incident, a 24-year-old man is also scheduled to face court charged with high-range drink driving.
Police had gone to a Lyneham home at 10:10 pm on Monday (5 June) following reports of a crash.
When officers arrived, they found a stationary white Kia Rio, with its bonnet touching another vehicle in the driveway.
The driver of the Kia allegedly returned a positive roadside result and was taken to City Police Station where police said further breath analysis returned a result of 0.280 – nearly six times the legal limit of 0.05.
The man was issued an immediate suspension notice, suspending his licence for 90 days in the ACT.
