Dainere’s Rainbow Run is an event held annually at Burgmann Anglican School during their athletics carnival. The purpose of this event is to hopefully change the lives of families by raising money and awareness towards research in finding a cure for childhood brain cancer. Most importantly, however, it aims to continue Dainere’s legacy of giving back to the wider community and in representing the love she had for her school and fellow peers.
This year marked Dainere’s 21st Rainbow Run and symbolises the age that she would be today. The Rainbow Run is inclusive of all senior school and middle school students, encouraging the entire community to get behind a great cause, whilst also partaking in an enjoyable experience!
The younger kids throw packets of coloured powder at the year 12s resulting in a magnificent display of colourful explosions embodied on their white shirts. The fun which the day brings also provides opportunity to allow students to reflect on the positive qualities that Dainere brought to the school community, as well as the importance of donating to those who need it.
Overall, for all those involved it was a terrifically joyous and emotional day, and we look forward to the next chapter of Dainere’s legacy in future Rainbow Runs.
Also, a big thank you to all those who contributed to this year’s Rainbow Run, the Burgmann staff, the Anthoney family, as well as all of the students involved.
