Last month we attended Beyond Bank Christmas in June Gala Dinner hosted by the Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund. This dinner was to raise awareness and funds for brain tumour research in honour of Dainere Anthoney whose life was stolen by this horrific disease on 24th June 2013.
Tragically over the past three decades there have been no improvements in survival rates of children diagnosed with paediatric brain tumours, no risk factors have been identified and no screening procedures are in place, tragically litle is known about this disease, other than some devastating statistics and paediatric brain tumour research receives no Government funding. Dainere advocated and was the small, gentle, inspirational and heroic voice begging that there needed to be a greater awareness and a significant increase in funding for paediatric brain tumours. Dainere’s greatest wish in life was that no children would have to suffer like her in the future, that new less devastating treatments needed to be established and ultimately a cure discovered for paediatric brain tumours.
This was the second dinner in memory of and as a legacy to Dainere Anthoney. We were proud to attend for the second year in a row to support this wonderful cause.
It is due to the the incredible support of the sponsors and attendees that Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund Gala Fundraising dinner held on the 20th June 2015 raised a phenomenal $25,523.77.
These funds go directly towards the vital research of the devoted Dr David Ziegler and his team at The Kids Cancer Centre at The Sydney Children’s Hospital who are workings towards improving the outcomes for all children with brain tumours; through a comprehensive research program that stretches from investigating the basic biology and genetics of childhood brain tumours in the laboratory; identifying agents that induce a profound anti-tumour effect; safer treatment options with less devastating side effects; the implementation of novel treatment strategies in state of the art clinical trials and ultimately a cure.
Every child deserves a chance at a future and the sole way to see an increase in survival rates for paediatric brain tumours can only come through a dramatic increase in research capacity which is funded by families like the Anthoney’s, supported by remarkable people like you.
Together we can take action, give hope, make a difference and create change for all children diagnosed with paediatric brain tumour and see Dainere’s greatest which in life of a cure being found become a reality. You can find out more or donate here: www.daineresrainbow.com.au/
