The Celebrate Gungahlin Festival is back with a whole new format, and the festival team is looking forward to celebrating local talent, the local community and the best that Gungahlin has to offer.
The festival will run as a series of events over nine days from 20 to 28 March right around the Gungahlin region and there is something for everyone in the program.
Some highlights include the Cultural Showcase on Saturday, 20 March from 12 noon to 4:00 pm. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the Gungahlin Town Square and treat yourself to a performance from community groups and cultural performers of all ages and backgrounds.
Perhaps you’ll find a new group to get involved in yourself, or simply enjoy the chance to support friends and family as we celebrate the ability to get out and perform again after such a tough year.
There will be tasty snacks available for purchase and local legends Altina Drinks will be on site, serving up delicious zero-proof craft cocktails that everyone can enjoy.
On Friday, 26 March, the George Harcourt Inn Stage will ring out with the sounds of some super talented individuals who want to show off what they’ve got to the rest of the community. Entrants in the Gungahlin’s So Talented competition will be judged by local celebrities – 2020 Aria award nominee CJ Shaw, and Member for Yerrabi and country music singer Leeann Castley. The winner takes home $1000 cash. You can book your table here to make sure you don’t miss out on the fun!
The festival will round out on Sunday, 28 March with the Neighbour Day Community Picnics. This community picnic will be held simultaneously at multiple parks across Gungahlin with artists, roving performers and other special treats to be found at each location. It’s the perfect opportunity to connect with those that live closest to you and make the most of all the wonderful local spaces that we have all come to know so much better over the past year.
Gungahlin programs officer Michele Grimston says, “We are so excited to be bringing Celebrate Gungahlin back to the community in this way. I think 2020 has given us all a newfound appreciation of the local, and Celebrate Gungahlin Festival really leans into this and tries to engage with as many of the treasures of our region as we possibly can.”
As well as the highlights above, you’ll find kids activities, art exhibitions, workshops, a local market and more. Head over to the Celebrate Gungahlin Festival website for all the details and jump on board this community-wide celebration of all things Gungahlin!
Celebrate Gungahlin is produced by Belco Arts through the Gungahlin Arts Program with support from Communities@work, Northside Community Service, The Gungahlin Community Council, Crace Community Association and Barnardos, and is supported by the ACT Government.
