Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, announced that a trial offering $1 early bird fares to ACTION commuters who catch a bus before 7:30am on weekdays will commence next week.
“Take your dollar the distance and travel to work before 7:30 am on an ACTION bus for just $1 on weekdays,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“From next Monday 5 to Friday 30 May 2014, we will be rewarding ACTION early birds by reducing their MyWay fare to just $1 per trip. It will not only save you money, with an adult passenger making a saving of $1.84 per trip, but it will also allow you to beat the peak hour crowds.
“Commuters who recharge their MyWay card using Autoload or BPAY will bring in further savings, paying only $0.95 due to the 5 per cent discount received for paying via these methods.
“To take advantage of this offer tag on and off the bus with your MyWay card as usual on any bus before 7:30am on weekdays and the early bird fare will be applied automatically.
“MyWay cards are quick and easy to purchase either online or at any Canberra Connect shopfront or MyWay Recharge Agent.
“This is a great opportunity particularly for those working in the Parliamentary Triangle to give ACTION buses a go. As paid parking is introduced in July, catching a bus to and from work will be a easy and cost effective option for commuters.
“Encouraging commuters to catch the bus outside of the usual peak will have the added benefit of spreading bus capacity over a longer period of time to help make the journey to work even more relaxing,” Mr Rattenbury concluded.
Ahead of the introduction of paid parking in the middle of the year, ACTION will be holding three lunchtime bus information sessions at the National Triangle this week to inform commuters about bus services in the area.
On Tuesday 29 April a session will be held on Russell Drive (in front of Australian–American Memorial), Russell; on Wednesday 30 April a session will be held at the Barton Bus Station (4 National Circuit), Barton; and on Thursday 1 May a session will be held on King Edward Terrace (in front of the Federation Centenary Fountains), Parkes. All sessions will run from 12 pm to 2 pm.
