This Legacy Week, Canberra Legacy is asking Canberrans to dig deep to support the families of veterans suffering financially and socially due to the death, injury or serious illness of a spouse or parent as a result of their service to the country.
Legacy Week will happen from 27th August to 2nd September 2017 and all donations will go directly to our beneficiaries, ensuring financial assistance provided by the Canberra community stays in the local region, supporting Canberra-based families.
The National Launch of Legacy Week was held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra on Monday, 28th August 2017.
Canberra Legacy was formed in 1928 and still cares for around 1050 veterans’ families in the local region, including: 1050 Widow(er)s 27 Legacy Youth 18 disabled dependents

Canberra Legacy President, Legatee Gerry Carwardine, said “The dedicated men and women who serve their country deserve the recognition of their sacrifice and the support of all Australians and a promise to look after their families”. “Legacy is unique in the personal contact we offer through our volunteers, known as Legatees, and the caring relationships we have with the families.”
Canberra Legacy relies on the support of individual donors, bequestors, and corporate partners, together with dedicated Legatees and a small team of professional staff, who help deliver our valued services to veterans’ families.
Legacy merchandise, including badges, pens and the tri-service bears, will be available across Canberra during Legacy Week. Canberra Legacy will also have ‘tap and go’ donation points this year. “When you see a Legacy volunteer in the street or shopping centre during Legacy Week, help us help the families in need and buy a badge or provide a donation, no matter how small, it all counts.”
