Friday night (5 July 2019) ACT Policing detected a motorcyclist travelling at 142km/h on Horse Park Drive, Harrison. This was 62km/h over the 80km/h speed limit.

When police stopped the motorcyclist at about 11.30pm, they discovered the 17-year-old teenage male rider did not hold a licence to ride a motorcycle.

The motorcycle did not have number plates attached, it was uninsured, and had been unregistered since April 2019.

Police issued the rider with infringement notices for being an unlicenced rider, speeding more than 45km/h over the limit, and for driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.

Acting Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations, Sergeant Jayde Evans said the fines for these offences combine to a total of $4,069.

“There is never any excuse for speeding, but this month, ACT Policing’s traffic focus is on speeding, and police will be targeting anyone going faster than the limit,” Sergeant Evans said.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable users on our roads. The behaviour exhibited by this rider greatly increases the risks.”

“It is fortunate for this rider that he was not involved in a serious or fatal collision. Speeding to this degree is unacceptable, it will not be tolerated.”
