A 17-year-old boy has now been charged with murder following the death of an 82-year-old man.

At about 10.15pm on Friday, 15 March 2019, ACT Policing received a call for assistance to an assault occurring in Tamborine Close, Palmerston.

A 17-year-old boy engaged police at the scene and after OC spray was deployed, a number of officers restrained the boy.

Three victims were identified – including an 82-year-old man with critical injuries. All three were transported to hospital as well as the 17-year-old boy.

Police will allege the boy randomly attacked the three individuals in their vehicle as they arrived at a residence in Tamborine Close.

The 82-year-old died earlier this week and as a result, a fresh charge of murder was laid against the boy. This is in addition to existing charges relating to threats to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and obstruction of a Territory official.

He is next scheduled to appear in the Children’s Court on 8 April 2019.

Police would still like to speak with anyone who saw (or has CCTV footage) of the boy in the area of Tamborine Close and surrounding streets prior to 10.15pm on Friday 15 March 2019.

Anyone who may have any information that could assist police should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 6374403. Information can be provided anonymously.
