Road users are advised that a temporary closure will be in place on Gundaroo Drive westbound between Nudurr Drive and Abena Avenue from Friday 26 October 2018 as work continues on the second stage of the duplication of Gundaroo Drive.

The second stage of the duplication will provide two lanes in both directions between Gungahlin Drive and the Barton Highway and will improve safety, ease congestion and manage traffic growth in the Gungahlin region. The temporary road closure on Gundaroo Drive is to pour the new concrete deck for the bridge duplication.

We would also like to advise motorists that the traffic lights at the newly signalised intersection of Gundaroo Drive and Mirrabei Drive/Anthony Rolfe Avenue are now operational. Please be mindful of the changed traffic arrangements.

Location and timing of temporary road closure

The westbound carriageway of Gundaroo Drive between Nudurr Drive and Abena Avenue will close to traffic following morning peak hour at 9.30 am on Friday 26 October 2018 and reopen for the morning peak by 6 am on Monday 29 October 2018. This is to allow time for the concrete to set prior to reopening the road to traffic.

Detours

During the closure, road users travelling westbound will be detoured through Crace via Chance Street and should allow a few minutes of extra travel time. Motorists will still be able to travel eastbound on Gundaroo Drive towards the Gungahlin Town Centre. Pedestrians will be detoured across Gundaroo Drive at the Nudurr Drive roundabout.

Effects on public transport

Transport Canberra bus services will experience diversions from 9.30 am on Friday 26 October. Bus stop 5052 will be closed, passengers are advised to use alternative bus stop 6335 on Abena Street in Crace during this time.

Effects on traffic

  • Delays are expected.
  • Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs will be erected to alert people to the closure.
  • Drivers are asked to be mindful of the changed traffic arrangements and adhere to the work zone speed limits.

The ACT Government apologises for the inconvenience and thanks everyone for their patience whilst this important work takes place.
