Transport Canberra and City Services are reminding the community to be fully aware of Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) on our road network following an incident on the morning of 9th March involving a male pedestrian.

At approximately 7.47 am today, 9 March 2019, a pedestrian and a LRV collided at the intersection of Cooyong Street and Northbourne Avenue, City.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency and ACT Policing attended the incident. The pedestrian remained conscious and was not trapped under the LRV.

The patient sustained upper body injuries and was taken to The Canberra Hospital in a stable condition by the ACT Ambulance Service.

Transport Canberra remind the community of light rail testing underway and urge the community to be safe crossing intersections.

It is important for motorists and pedestrians to be aware that Light Rail Vehicles are now running between Gunghalin and the City.

Light rail vehicles are silent, large and travel quickly.

It is important that pedestrians and motorists pay attention to their surroundings. If everybody obeys the road rules, particularly around red lights, everyone will be safe.

We urge everyone in the community to be alert when walking and cycling near light rail and please observe the traffic signals and road rules so that we all stay safe.

Light rail vehicle movements on the corridor will continue to operate.
