Today at Gungahlin College MLA Meegan Fitzharris announced support for key events in Gungahlin over the coming two years. “I am pleased to announce that the ACT Government will deliver a Movie Marathon event for the Gungahlin community in 2016, and will also help support the Celebrate Gungahlin Festival for 2016 and 2017.”

“People living in Gungahlin are eager to have more entertainment options in the town centre and the Movie Marathon will feature a weekend of movies which will cater for a range of audiences.”

“A cinema complex is planned for the town centre – and this announcement recognises the importance of supporting more short term entertainment opportunities for the Gungahlin community.”

The Government will be partnering with Gungahlin College to deliver the Movie Marathon, and will be seeking support from local businesses as well as developing fundraising opportunities for community groups as part of the event.

“We are also pleased to announce that the ACT Government, through the LDA will commit to sponsoring Communities@Work’s Celebrate Gungahlin Festival for 2016 and 2017 as part of the LDA’s ongoing community engagement activities.”

“I’m so excited that we will see more entertainment coming to Gungahlin in the form of a Movie Marathon weekend in 2016,” said Meegan Fitzharris.

“Gungahlin is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, and people really want to see more entertainment so they can have a night out close to home.

“I think this highlights that the ACT Government is committed to supporting the Gungahlin community as it grows.

“I am also thrilled the government will provide $30,500 towards the Celebrate Gungahlin Festival in 2016 and 2017. The Festival was such a big success in 2015, and I know the community is looking forward to the event being even bigger and better next year,” said Ms Fitzharris.

Details including timings of the Movie Marathon, and opportunities for community involvement, will be available from the Land Development Agency in the new year.
