Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) is now better placed to attract even more events and exhibitions with more than $600,000 in upgrades now complete.

Today the ACT Government-funded refurbishment of the Conference Centre and Parkes Room at Exhibition Park was revealed, which are crucial to hosting larger events as they link the Exhibition Park’s two major pavilions, Budawang and Coorong.

The new-look Parkes Room will be attractive for clients wishing to hold dinners for around 300 guests, and I am pleased to hear that already bookings are being received to hire this upgraded venue.

Works included new building frontage, automated entry doors, enhancements to the reception area and upgrades to the conference facilities.

Tourism is a vital part of the ACT economy. It contributes about $1.6 billion into the local economy each year, and employs about 16,000 people – making it one of the Territory’s largest employers.

The impact that the business events sector also has not only on the ACT economy but the social, academic and educational fabric of our city and on industry development should not be underestimated.

To help Canberra’s tourism and business events sectors continue to grow, quality meeting and conference facilities and events spaces are important, and provide a compelling business case for choosing Canberra as a business and conference destination.

EPIC has a well earned reputation as a premier venue to host a wide range of events in the Territory and this upgrade will further enhance their ability to attract even more events to Canberra.
