Walkability Gungahlin

Harrison resident, Olivia who is a mother of two small boys, one who attends Harrison School in kindergarten is on a mission. She wants to encourage her kids to walk or cycle to school and around our town, for the many benefits to them and the environment we all share.

She is concerned about:

  • Immediate issues to do with road safety and walkability in pedestrian ‘hotspots’; and
  • Longer term ability to encourage our town planners to incorporate best practice walkability principles into the future plans for our area.

She is looking for other members of the community who may also be interested in these issues. Her first steps in this ‘campaign’ are:

  • To identify what has already been done around this issue;
  • To connect with other concerned community members;
  • To create a list of ‘hotspots’ where walkability is being hindered, eg footpaths that don’t join up, absence of pedestrian crossings in natural crossing points, etc; and
  • To educate herself further about what ‘best practice’ walkability looks like ‘on the ground’. eg case studies and examples

If you are interested in our streets and suburbs becoming easier & safer to get around (without a car) please do:
