Registrations have opened for the 2018 Garage Sale Trail as thousands of Australians prepare to declutter their homes and make some extra money.

“The Garage Sale Trail on 20 and 21 October 2018 is a nationwide weekend event which encourages the reuse of household items that might otherwise end up in landfill,” ACT NoWaste Team Leader, Education, Robbie Ladbrook said.

“The Garage Sale Trail is an opportunity for individuals, schools and community groups to host their own sales or fundraising events. It is also an opportunity for bargain hunters to mark the date in their diary to trek around town and visit Garage Sale Trail sites.”

In 2017 there were 15,000 sales nationwide and 400,000 people attended with over $1 million raised for schools, charities and local community groups.

Registrations for the 2018 Garage Sale Trail are now open. Those wishing to host an event will be supported with material to help advertise their sale and can also list their event for free on the national website.

“I encourage Canberrans to again get behind the Garage Sale Trail. It is more than just a great opportunity to stop some potential treasure from going to landfill, it is a chance to find some bargains and help reduce waste in the ACT,” Ms Ladbrook said.
