Children are cheering for Canberra author Leanne Shea Langdown and her little friend Cheer Chick Charlie.

The Cheer Chick Charlie novels are a fan favourite for primary aged children and with Book 8 released on the weekend, there was much excitement surrounding the book release party.

Many of the Cheer Chick Charlie fans were attending the Aussie Gold Cheer and Dance International Championships at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre last weekend, so it seemed fitting that Leanne travel to Queensland to launch her latest work.

“I love connecting with my readers,” says Leanne, “They motivate and inspire me to continue writing. Signing books is by far my favourite thing to do, so I’m not complaining about the writer’s cramp!”

Leanne invited her fans to the official book release party which was held in the “Spirit Zone” around the edges of Aussie Gold on Saturday. Her aim in writing the series is to not only entertain children, but to also encourage them to be cheerleaders for each other.

“Cheerleaders obviously love the books,” she says, “But I really write for all children. The books surpass the sport of cheerleading to encourage kids to believe in their dreams, support each other and to feel good about themselves.”

Parents are praising the series for its positivity, commitment to health and fitness, and overall life lessons.

Kids are loving it because it’s encouraging and entertaining.

The release of Cheer Chick Charlie: Let’s Do This! was a huge success with children arriving much earlier than the midday start time to be first in line for the new book. Cheer Chick Charlie even turned up which was met with a big cheer from the crowd and loads of photos.

The Cheer Chick Charlie books can be found in all good book stores across Australia and New Zealand including most online bookstores. Book 8 will be hitting the shops in time for Christmas, but in the meantime if you’d like an advance copy, feel free to order it via the Cheer Chick Charlie website.

“All I really wanted to do is help kids believe in themselves,” says Leanne. “Everybody needs a cheerleader in their life; someone to inspire, encourage and energise. For children, that cheerleader is Cheer Chick Charlie.”
