Two men will face court following separate family violence incidents this weekend

Two men will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, 23 April 2018, following separate incidents of family violence this weekend.

A 35-year-old man from Ngunnawal will appear before the ACT Magistrate Court following a family violence incident on Saturday, 21 April 2018.

The man has been charged with one count of choke person and render insensible, one count of reckless threat to kill a person, and one count of common assault.

In a separate and unrelated incident, a 34-year-old Kaleen man will appear before the ACT Magistrate Court following a family violence incident on Saturday, 21 April 2018.

The man has been charged with one count of common assault.

In both instances, the victims received medical treatment.

Acting Superintendent Jason Kennedy said victim safety and offender accountability is at the core of ACT Policing’s focus on family violence.

“To choke, suffocate or strangle another person, whether or not you render that person unconscious, is an incredibly serious offence and police will respond accordingly”, Acting Superintendent Kennedy said.
