ACT Policing is seeking information from the public after a vehicle fled from police during a routine traffic stop late Thursday night, 29 May 2014.

Around 11:50pmThursday night, police responded to a report of a vehicle continuously speeding along Myall Street O’Connor.

Police attended the area and located a blue Mazda 323 and conducted a traffic stop. As the officer approached the vehicle it suddenly accelerated away.

Police followed the vehicle as it fled through a number of suburbs in northern Canberra. Police ceased to follow the fleeing vehicle on the Barton Highway.

Superintendent Ben Cartwright from ACT Policing Traffic Operations said that the type of behaviour from the driver is not acceptable.

“ACT Policing and the Canberra community do not tolerate this kind of dangerous driving on ACT roads. We’re calling on the public to assist us in this investigation and get this driver before the court,” Superintendent Cartwright said.

Police are urging anyone with information about the blue Mazda 323 involved in the pursuit, which commenced in O’Connor around 11.50pm Thursday night, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.
