Marketplace Gungahlin underground car park now open

On the 23rd of July last year we advised the My Gungahlin community that the open air car park next to Woolies was closing to allow for a major transformation for the next extension of Marketplace Gungahlin. We can now let you know that one year and one month on the new two level basement car park is now open!

The new two level underground car park, consisting of 500+ car parks and underground link to the Big W mall, is now open. The new car park has full travelator connection into the mall (from both levels), as well as an oversized lift for the convenience of shoppers. The car park includes:

• 2 levels of undercover basement parking for over 500 cars
• 15 disabled spaces
• 15 motorbike spaces
• 21 parents with prams/seniors parking
• 36 visitor bicycle spaces
• 22 staff bicycle spaces

That’s all in addition to the existing Big W mall which currently houses over 800 undercover car spaces with direct access to the shops.

In conjunction with the new car park opening, The Marketplace Gungahlin will soon move to a paid car parking solution which will be managed by Wilson Parking. Customers will receive the first two (2) hours free parking with a nominal charge incurred thereafter. The exact date of implementation of the paid car parking will be advised when more information is provided to the Centre by Wilson Parking.

Last year The Marketplace and surrounding shopping complexes had to introduce time limited car parking to ensure customers had access to car spaces for their shopping. This was due to commuters and others using the car parks for all day car parking limiting the amount of car spaces available. With the two hour limited car parks customers have to actually relocate their cars to a different car park if they stayed beyond the two hours or risk an expensive fine. Now shoppers can stay beyond the free two hours without the risk of a fine or have to move their car.
