A lead consultant has been selected to prepare an Estate Development Plan and Master Plan Design for Canberra’s new ‘Home of Football’ in Throsby.

SMEC Australia Pty Ltd has begun designing the new state-of-the-art facility which will provide Canberran’s with world class indoor and outdoor football facilities in the ACT and support a range of training and competition activities for Canberra’s thriving football community.

The new site will be home to multiple outdoor football fields, indoor futsal courts, office space for Capital Football staff and associated amenities.

The design team includes Capital Football who will lead the consultation with the football community.

This partnership with Capital Football and the Football Federation Australia to deliver the Home of Football brought the Socceroos to Canberra in October last year with a further two fixtures involving the Matildas and Junior Matildas coming later in the year.

The ACT Government is investing $20 million for the project with Capital Football contributing an additional $4.5 million.

The Estate Development Plan is scheduled for completion in mid-2020 and will inform detailed design and future construction activities which are scheduled for 2021.

As Canberra grows, the ACT Government is committed to delivering more sporting facilities to help Canberrans stay active, healthy and engaged in the sports they love.

Phil Brown, CEO at Capital Football said, “Capital Football is excited to see this next phase of the Home of Football development commence. We look forward to working with the ACT Government in shaping what will be a tremendous facility for football and futsal”.
