Gungahlin residents and other interested stakeholders are invited to participate in a focus group session to discuss the duplication of Gundaroo Drive.

“Carrying up to 12,500 vehicles a day, Gundaroo Drive provides an important link for Canberrans travelling from Horse Park Drive through to William Slim Drive in Belconnen,” Tony Gill, Director, Roads ACT, said today.

“As the population continues to grow in the Gungahlin region, so too does congestion of the existing road network. In recognition of the importance of Gundaroo Drive for people travelling to and from Belconnen and within Gungahlin, plans to duplicate this road are now underway.

“Following completion of the preliminary design, local residents and other interested stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the duplication of Gundaroo Drive. Consultation activities will include a focus group session on Thursday 22 November 2012 from 6 pm to 8 pm and two information sessions in December 2012.”

Mr Gill said a letter will be sent to residents who live in suburbs that back onto Gundaroo Drive including Crace, Palmerston and Ngunnawal inviting them to participate in the focus group.

“The focus group session aims to identify and discuss stakeholder issues and ideas about the project which will help inform the development of the detailed design.

“The focus group will be an open discussion between participants, the project team and government representatives. Topics that will be covered include pedestrian and cycle paths, noise mitigation measures and landscaping design.

“I encourage all interested stakeholders to participate in the focus group session to ensure the final design for the duplication of Gundaroo Drive best meets the needs of users in the area,” Mr Gill said.

The Gundaroo Drive duplication is one of a number of projects aimed at improving safety and relieving congestion in the Gungahlin region. Preliminary design work is also underway for the duplication of

William Slim Drive and an upgrade of the Barton Highway/William Slim Drive intersection.
