As the work on stage 1 of the light rail project continues to build, people who use Northbourne Avenue and Flemington Road will notice weekly intersection closures. Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) is working hard to ensure these closures cause as little disruption as possible.

A number of major intersections between Alinga Street and Flemington Road will be affected by periods of closures between now and December.

The first closure will be at the Barton Highway intersection with Northbourne Avenue from 10pm Friday 10 November until 4am on Monday 13 November. Traffic will not be able to turn right onto Northbourne Avenue from the Barton Highway or right onto the Barton Highway from the Federal Highway.

From 8pm Sunday 12 November until 6pm Sunday 10 December the Flemington Road intersection of Sandford Street and Morisset Road will be closed to all traffic turning right into Sandford Street and Morisset Road from Flemington Road, and closed to all traffic travelling across Sandford Street and Morisset Road.

From 10pm Friday 17 November until 4am Monday 20 November traffic will not be able to turn right into Mouat Street and Antill Street from Northbourne Avenue. Northbound and southbound traffic will remain unaffected.

Detours will be in place to divert all traffic including buses. Highly visible traffic management will be in place throughout the works. Road users are encouraged to observe traffic management signs and personnel.

TCCS thanks the public for their continued understanding and patience during these interruptions. Canberra Metro has not planned to carry out any major construction works on the Light Rail during the Christmas holiday period from 22 December 2017 to 2 January 2018.
