Tickets for the three-day Gungahlin Movie Marathon running from 17-19 June at Gungahlin College went on sale on Wednesday.

Local MLAs Meegan Fitzharris and Jayson Hinder said the program, released last month, offers a range of cinematic experiences from family films, to classics and recent releases.

“I’m so excited Gungahlin’s first movie marathon is almost here. There will be 19 films for people to see with a mix of old and new favourites in a range of genres, including the recently released Star Wars: Episode II – The Force Awakens, Mad Max: Fury Road, Despicable Me, Dirty Dancing and The Princess Bride,” said Ms Fitzharris.

“Tickets are only $5 per person per movie and go on sale today, 1 June. All proceeds will go to local not-for-profit groups working to benefit people who live in Gungahlin.”

All proceeds will be shared evenly between not-for-profit groups including:

  • Lions Club of Gungahlin
  • Rotary Club of Gungahlin
  • Birralee Scouts
  • Gungahlin Girl Guides
  • Communities@Work Gungahlin Pantry
  • Inanna Incorporated
  • Dad’s Place
  • Scope Home Access
  • Country Women’s Association Gungahlin
  • Common Ground Canberra
  • Mercy Health Home and Community Care
  • Gungahlin Youth Group.

Mr Hinder said the ACT Government was pleased to be able to partner with and support local organisations who have a focus on the Gungahlin community.

“It’s great to see the community will be able to enjoy a night out in Gungahlin, while supporting so many great causes. We expect that with more than 4,100 tickets available to the public, each organisation could receive up to $1,700, so I urge people to make the most of this opportunity.

“Tickets are expected to sell fast, so get in early to show support for your local community,” said Mr Hinder.

Most of the movies in the Gungahlin Movie Marathon will be shown in the main theatre at Gungahlin College which seats 290 people. It has a big screen, comfortable seats and some are reserved for wheelchair access.

Six films will be shown in a smaller 70-seat lecture theatre. There will be a candy bar and popcorn available throughout the weekend.

The Land Development Agency is delivering this event on behalf of the ACT Government and is coordinating partnerships and fundraising opportunities with the Gungahlin community.
