Major light rail construction work is set to occur at night on Flemington Road with temporary road closures at three locations over the next three months to accommodate the works.

From 8.00pm tonight, Wednesday 23 August, traffic barriers will be installed at the Mitchell Resource Management Centre (MRMC), closing the northbound Flemington Road right turn into the MRMC. Traffic will be restricted to only using a left-hand turn in and left-hand turn out of the MRMC onto Flemington Road for the next four weeks. A traffic sign is in place advising MRMC traffic travelling northbound on Flemington Road to detour and make a U-turn at Well Station Drive for access into the Centre.

Access to and from Randwick Road will be closed with barriers from 8.00pm tonight at the intersection of Flemington Road and Randwick Road. Detour signs will be installed for motorists to follow. This closure will be in place for up to 10 weeks, and will be reopened prior to Melbourne Cup celebrations at Thoroughbred Park on 6 November 2017. Access to Randwick Road will remain open from Barton Highway during these works.

Flemington Road between Well Station Drive and Sandford Street, Mitchell will be closed from 8.00pm tonight to allow traffic barriers to be installed. All traffic will be diverted through Hoskins Street. At 6.00am tomorrow, 24 August, the road will be reopened with a left-hand turn in and out of Lysaght Street for approximately three months. Right turn into Lysaght Street from Flemington Road will not be available.

For everyone’s safety, motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to observe all traffic management measures in place. Local residents and businesses directly impacted by these temporary road changes have been notified prior to the start of any work in their area.

Further closure at the northern end of Flemington Road

Commencing tomorrow, Thursday 24 August 2017, The Manning Clark Crescent intersection with Flemington Road (at the northern end of Flemington Road) near Kate Crace Street, will be closed for up to four weeks to allow for surface stabilisation works and the laying of various conduits.

The works will be undertaken daily from 7.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday during the four week period.

There will be no right turns onto Manning Clarke Crescent from Flemington Road and similarly no right turn onto Flemington Road from Manning Clarke Crescent. Through traffic on Manning Clark will not be able to cross Flemington Road. Through traffic will be maintained northbound and southbound on Flemington Road through the intersection.

Traffic management measures to assist motorists, pedestrians and cyclists will be in place. Detours will also be in place and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes where possible.

Bus detours will apply. Southbound buses will be diverted via Kate Crace Street and right onto Flemington Road.

Transport Canberra and City Services thanks the public for their understanding and patience during these interruptions.
