A new pedestrian crossing will be positioned on Efkarpidis Street in Gungahlin to provide staff and Access Canberra customers with safer access between Winyu House and the Gungahlin Marketplace.

Member for Molonglo and Gungahlin, Meegan Fitzharris, has been calling for the crossing to be installed after more than 600 people moved into the building a few weeks ago.

“The new government office building, Winyu House, is a great addition to the Gungahlin Town Centre. But with more people comes more cars.

“We need to make sure people are safe getting around the Town Centre, particularly with the new Access Canberra shopfront and child care centre now open in the building.

“I understand the area has been closely monitored to determine the need for the crossing, and also where best to place it.

“The crossing will be positioned at the location of the existing pram ramps and will be in place before the end of August 2015.

“The 40km/h zone will also be extended to include the Winyu House entrance and crossing.

“I’d like to thank Minister for Roads and Parking, Mick Gentleman and Roads ACT for their swift action in getting this done,” said Ms Fitzharris.
