Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, welcomed Australian and New Zealand Recycling Platform Limited, which runs the nationwide not-for-profit TechCollect recycling program, as a new ACT service provider under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme.

“TechCollect has previously held temporary e-waste drop off events in Canberra, with two in 2013 and one early this year, and today we welcome them as a permanent provider of e-waste collection services,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“TechCollect will provide a free, ongoing e-waste collection service at the Mitchell Resource Management Centre for households and small businesses that wish to recycle their unwanted televisions, computers, and computer products such as printers, keyboards, mice and hard drives.

“Responsible recycling is a key commitment of TechCollect who only partners with recyclers who can guarantee that a minimum of 90 per cent of all e-waste collected is recovered for re-use in new products.”

“TechCollect now has established permanent e-waste drop off centres across all states and territories and conducts regular e-waste collection events to ensure old and unwanted e-waste does not end up in landfill.

“The e-waste scheme has not only boosted recycling rates for televisions and computers, but has also helped alleviate some of the ongoing illegal dumping issues in the ACT.

“The addition of TechCollect as a permanent service provider means that Canberrans now have access to two Approved Co-regulatory Arrangements that deliver services under the national e-waste scheme, with DHL Supply Chain (Australia) Pty Ltd continuing as the provider at the Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre.

“This is great news as it means Canberrans have access to a variety of service providers under the national e-waste scheme, giving television and computer manufacturers and importers greater choice, and giving the community more options for disposing of their unwanted televisions and computers.

“I encourage Canberrans to keep up the good work and continue to recycle e-waste appropriately, particularly as disposing of unwanted televisions and computers at the Mugga Lane and Mitchell Resource Management Centres is completely free,” Mr Rattenbury concluded.

The permanent drop off sites at the Mugga Lane and Mitchell Resource Management Centres are open from 7.30 am to 5 pm seven days a week. Please note Mitchell’s e-waste drop-off point has moved from The Green Shed to the transfer station area.
