Gungahlin is home to Canberra's first Callanetics studio. No, it's not calisthenics! It was big in the 1980s and 90s, and now Callanetics has been updated with new routines designed to tone the body even faster.
Callanetics is a no impact exercise technique so it's gentle on the body, but powerful at the same time. It's suitable for all ages and levels of ability. In Callanetics, we extend a muscle, then 'pulse' into that muscle to tone it. The tinier the pulse, the more effective the exercise. You'll feel that you've had a workout, but relaxed at the same time. Students report better body tone and core strength, sleep, concentration, muscle tone, and posture, and they walk out of class standing straighter and taller. Then the centimetres start to come off and people comment that they look as if they've lost weight.
Movement Mentors owner Virginia Cooke was accredited as an instructor in 2012 and has been teaching classes and workshops in the Harrison studio ever since. Classes sizes are capped at nine students to cater to individual needs. All equipment is supplied. Callanetics works at what level of ability you're at, whether you're 18 or 80!
