Description:

We are Canberra's premier full-time karate school dedicated to the practice and preservation of traditionalOkinawan Karate-do and Kobudo and have been operating as anon-profit organisation since 2009.

Our dojo in Mitchell (Gungahlin area) has classes for children/families and teens/adults andcaters for both complete beginners and those with experience. We teach traditionalOkinawan Matsubayashi-ryu (Shorin-ryu) Karate-do and Kobudo as founded by Osensei Shoshin Nagamine, Hanshi 10th Dan, and continue under the direct guidance of theWorld Matsubayashi-ryu Karate-do Association in Okinawa, Japan.
The Cummings Karate Dojo is also a member of the Australian Karate Federation, the only national governing body of karate in Australia recognised andendorsed by the federal government and the Australian Sports Commission. The AKF is a member of theWorld Karate Federation.

We're sure you'll love our programs, but we want you to be sure too. So, we offer 2 weeks of unlimited classes (and a free uniform if you enrol) to trial our classes, with no strings attached. In our trial, you will get to experience:
  • 2 weeks (that's up to 8 hours!) of dynamic and fun classes
  • Instruction from highly qualified and internationally accredited instructors
  • A welcome into a community which is like no other; and
  • If you decide to enrol, a free uniform!

All classes are taught by internationally qualified instructors who have trained in the birthplace of Karate, Okinawa, and are dedicated to providing the highest level of quality instruction. While karate is an extremely practical and effective form of self-defence, we aim to teachtraditional martial arts for the modern world through building the:

  1. Mind: through mental robustness, confidence / character development and discipline, and
  2. Body: through physical conditioning, reflex / co-ordination development and practical self-defence skills.
