Two girls saved from drowning by off duty firefighter at Yerrabi

Two teenage girls have been saved from drowning by an off duty fire fighter, Friday 13th October, after falling into swollen flood water in Gungahlin.

The girls got into trouble after falling into Yerrabi Pond at Amaroo.

The fire fighter jumped into the water and retrieved them including one who was submerged under the surface.

He then performed CPR with assistance from ACT Policing officers.

ACT Ambulance Service crews arrived a short time later.

Both girls were stabilised by intensive care paramedics then transported to Calvary Hospital, one is a serious condition the other stable.

The ACT State Emergency Service remind the public to stay away from flooded drains or waterways during wet weather conditions and straight after them.
