In June over 60 parents, children and carers attended the inaugural “Tracks to Reconciliation- Gungahlin” event this year.

During the event both Indigenous and non-Indigenous families and staff moved from Gungahlin Child and Family Centre, Gungahlin Library, and Communities @Work in the name of Reconciliation.

This event was being held for the third year running in West Belconnen during Reconciliation Week, and is the first time for Gungahlin.

Families were entertained by Ngunnawal Primary Koori pre-school kids singing “Koori Pre”- written by local mum, Sherone Munro, Aboriginal Story time and songs at the Gungahlin Library, followed by the most amazing lunch provided by Communities@Work. The Community art work “Together” was also unveiled- being a piece created by a number of different groups in Gungahlin including Ngunnawal primary and Koori Pre students, Ginar Maliyan mob, and staff and clients of both Communities @Work, Gungahlin Child and Family centre and many other residents.

The event hopes to bring together Indigenous and non-Indigenous families, as well as staff from each of the community agencies involved to create a more cohesive and connected community to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in the Gungahlin region.
