Today members from the Indigenous Marathon Project joined Gungahlin parkrun for the weekly 5km run around Yerrabi Pond. They graciously donated their time to act as volunteers for the day by being marshals, time keepers, token sorters and photographer.

The Indigenous Marathon Project uses marathon running to change lives, aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles throughout Indigenous communities rationally and reduce the incidence of Indigenous disease and aims to create Indigenous role models and inspire Indigenous people.

You are invited to join in a very significant community event – the inaugural Reconciliation Run on Sunday 1 June!

Reconciliation Run, supported by Reconciliation Australia, is a partnership between the Australian Government Department of Health and the Indigenous Marathon Project, as part of Reconciliation Week celebrations.

There is no registration process, no times are recorded – simply show your support with a gold coin donation to walk or run alongside our inspirational runners as they tackle their first training run around the picturesque, Lake Burley Griffin starting at Reconciliation Place, Parkes.

Distances will include 5km, 10km and 15km and you run or work as much or as little as you like – it’s not a race.

Join in at 8am for an 8:30am start. You don’t need to be fast, you don’t need to be a runner – all you need is to get involved and support the incredible Indigenous runners who will represent their communities and the nation at the 2014 New York marathon in November.
