Gungahlin ACT Policing

Last week I had a coffee and chat with Senior Constable Lawless, Senior Constable Roberts and Sergeant Battye from Gungahlin station.

This was a good opportunity for us to talk about the work ACT Police has been doing in Gungahlin and discuss how we can all work together as a community.

Over the last couple of months I have noticed some real positive stories of late ACT Police has shared. There has been some good breakthroughs of late. One in particular is the arrests over the spate of thefts at construction sites in Gungahlin.

I did take the opportunity to raise a few items that have been raised or discussed on our Facebook page recently. We discussed burn-outs on Horse Park Drive near Ngunnawal and Casey and the back of Amaroo, houses being egged and wheelie bins being damaged. They acknowledged that whilst these are minor offences in the grand scheme of law and order they did stress these anti-social behaviours are still treated seriously.

Sergeant Battye did tell me that it’s important that anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity are reported as it helps build data that potentially show a pattern to the behaviour. I questioned Sergeant Battye on the best way for the community to report. He advised to call 131 444 (call 000 if life threatening). Senior Constable Lawless also pointed out that if people want to remain anonymous to report via the Crime Stoppers website. The information does actually get sent to the Gungahlin station where Senior Constable Lawless receives the information and responds accordingly.

Sergeant Battye did also advise if at any time members of the Gungahlin community aren’t happy with the service they are receiving from the Police or want to discuss matters further people are welcome to drop in to the Gungahlin station to talk with himself or OIC Sergeant Hofmeier.

I am grateful for the time these Officers gave me yesterday. Over the last year we have developed an excellent relationship with Officers from the Gungahlin station. They all are a valuable part of the Gungahlin community.
